{"id":224,"date":"2009-05-02T18:12:54","date_gmt":"2009-05-02T23:12:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/quackingalone.wordpress.com\/?p=224"},"modified":"2009-11-15T19:57:51","modified_gmt":"2009-11-16T00:57:51","slug":"nailbiter-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quackingalone.com\/blog\/2009\/05\/02\/nailbiter-time\/","title":{"rendered":"Nailbiter Time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Currently, I'm awaiting two things and I'm not sure which causes the most tension.<\/p>\n<p>Just published my FIRST paperback.\u00a0 <em><a href=\"https:\/\/quackingalone.com\/blog\/complete-list-of-e-books\/#brotherly\">Brotherly Love<\/a><\/em>\u00a0 is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/1442150831\" target=\"_blank\">available on Amazon<\/a>.\u00a0 The publication of an actual physical version of a book is a momentous occasion for any writer.\u00a0 It's a dream come true.\u00a0 Okay.\u00a0 It's the K-Mart Blue Light Special version of a\u00a0dream come true.\u00a0\u00a0The actual dream come true would involve a NY publishing house, an editor, a literary agent and a book tour.\u00a0 But, the great thing about\u00a0being a writer today is that we can take the reins of our own destiny.\u00a0 Thank you Createspace and Amazon.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/1442150831\" target=\"_blank\">My listing<\/a> just went live on the aforementioned literary mecca called Amazon and I'm anxiously awaiting my first sale.\u00a0 Not that I'm clicking my Createspace member dashboard every few minutes or anything.\u00a0 No.\u00a0 Of\u00a0course not.\u00a0 (Yeah, right.)<\/p>\n<p>The other anxiety producing event is that my husband is actually reading the book.\u00a0 He's nobody's romance fan.\u00a0 Just last night he told me that he might go postal if he ever read any versions of the words\u00a0pebbled and nipples\u00a0in the same sentence again. \u00a0\u00a0I asked if he'd have the same problem looking at them.\u00a0 He shot me a look. Yeah, one of those looks.\u00a0 No dear, I'm not certifiable.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So, I'm biting my nails to see whether my husband will be able to finish the book and come up with anything nice to say about it.\u00a0 Can the man I've been married to for over 20 years and produced two people with\u00a0find something non-nasty to say when he finishes my book?\u00a0 If he finishes my book?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I can hear it in my head.\u00a0\u00a0It's the voice of the announcer from the soap I used to watch with my maternal grandmother.\u00a0\u00a0Her grandchildren called her Mammy.\u00a0 We\u00a0 called my maternal grandfather Spot. Don't ask.\u00a0 But anyway, Mammy and I used\u00a0to watch a soap called \"The Edge of Night\" every afternoon.\u00a0 That announcer's voice is in my head now.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>What's he saying?\u00a0 It goes something like this:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>Will any patron of Amazon ever click the buy button and take delivery on Mary Anne Graham's firstborn paperback, Brotherly Love?\u00a0 Will the man who with Mary Anne Graham created her first and second born sons\u00a0actually read her entire book?\u00a0 If he does, will he be able to say something nicer than, \"It wasn't completely rotten.\"\u00a0Or even - you dreamer you - \"It didn't make me want to throw up.\" <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned\u00a0women everywhere.\u00a0 As for me, like I said, I'm biting my fingernails.<\/p>\n<p>My toenails are even starting to look tasty!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Currently, I'm awaiting two things and I'm not sure which causes the most tension.
